WELCOME TO MINIMA ONLINE
Cassina P22
The new P22 is Patrick Norguet’s first collaboration with Cassina. The P22 is a contemporary interpretation of the classic bergère armchair, stating his intention to “design a relaxing armchair, respecting classic traditions but at the same time mixing modern influences”. This new chair joins the esteemed company of true design classics as Cassina holds exclusive licences to manufacture design classics from legendary architects and designs such as Le Corbusier, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Frank Lloyd Wright, Franco Albini and many more.
LC1
One such design classic, two versions of which are currently on display in Minima’s Hanover Quay showroom, is the LC1 armchair by Le Corbusier conceived in collaboration with Charlotte Perriand and his cousin Pierre Jeanneret. This timeless piece, first shown at the Salon d\'Automne in 1929 aimed to develop an anonymous design for a piece of furniture an “objet-type”, in this case referring to the typical safari chair which LC1 recalls with its shape, moveable arms, and backrest.
Eileen Gray
Another designer with a number of pieces on display at Minima is Ireland’s recently celebrated Eileen Gray. Although unauthorised copies of her designs are available from various sources, Minima is the only Irish dealer of authorised Eileen Gray designs, manufactured by Classicon. An Enniscorthy native, Gray was among the first women to be admitted to the Slade School of Art. In 1902 she moved to Paris and quickly established herself as a leading designer. Later, in the 1920s and ‘30s she became a leading exponent of the revolutionary new theories of design, exhibiting chrome, steel tube and glass furniture designs, the same years as her contemporaries Le Corbusier , Mies van der Rohe and Marcel Breuer. Her small adjustable table, also on display at Minima, was added to MOMA’s permanent design collection in 1978, two years after her passing.
Bell Tables Sitting comfortably with these classics is a new favourite at Minima. The Bell Table, designed by Sebastian Herkner in 2012, comprises a lightweight hand blown glass base supporting a metal top which appears to float above the base. Finished with a crystal top, each table is completely handmade and the glass base blown using traditional techniques. Available as either a low coffee table or a taller side table, the glass is available in a variety of colours and the top can be also be specified in copper.
Flexform Groundpiece

The reason Flexform’s Groundpiece is one of Minima’s best-selling sofas is obvious the moment you sit into it. Flexform are a sofa specialist and once you sink in, you cannot help releasing a deep breath and instantly feeling better. The other factor in its enduring success is that the design in completely modular. The arms can be removed from the main sofa sections which in turn can be separated and reorganised as your living requirements change. Many long-term Minima customers return to reconfigure their Groundpiece when they move home. An additional benefit of this modular construction is that the sofa is extremely easy to transport and is one of the few large sofas which can be easily installed in apartments.
B&B Italia Husk Collection
Designed by Patricia Urquiola in 2011, the Husk Collection began with this unique armchair. The stiff body is shaped from HIREK, a completely recyclable material, which contrasts with the soft interior and wooden base. The chairs comfort is communicated early through the exaggerated puffed appearance of the upholstered front. This design language has continued through an entire collection including a sofa, dining chair, a bed, occasional tables and even an outdoor collection of chairs and armchairs. We expect this collection to be a future classic.
MDF Italia Tense & Robin
Two of Minima’s most popular tables in recent years have been the Tense and Robin from MDF Italia.
The Tense is a study in true minimalism; a table which seems to be made entirely from resin, yet can span up to 4m despite a thickness of only 35mm. These exceptional sizes are possible due to the very technical underlying structure which is a marriage of aluminium and composite materials. The entire table is covered with a 3mm thick coating of resin giving it the distinctive smooth and sharp appearance. The cleanness and smoothness of the finish ensures that its personality is not overbearing and it fits as comfortably into a traditional setting as a modernist one. Later in 2014, the Tense will be available in some new colours which we are very excited about.
These features combined with optional cable management systems have also made the Tense popular as a desk or even a boardroom table, with two supplied to high profile clients in recent months. The Robin table is a more recent addition to MDF Italia’s collection. While the Robin can’t span the vast ranges as the Tense, it has a unique finish which always prompts discussion. The 30mm table top is a complex aluminium, steel and composite panel but none of this seems to matter as the table top is coated in cement. This is hand finished to give a very cool industrial look without being gauche. This finish is continued onto the round profile legs and table edges and the hand finishing is clearly visible ensuring that each table is individual. The Robin is available in four finishes, two of which are suitable for outdoor use.
Promemoria Mogador
Promemoria represents the other side of Minima. Old fashioned luxury and traditional craftsmanship. The Promemoria journey began in the 19th century when the Sozzi family managed a workshop on the shores of lake Como, restoring and repairing carriages for the local aristocracy. Over the following four generations, the family refined their craft and under Romeo Sozzi became Promemoria as it is now known. Every piece of Promemoria is a handmade limited edition, often made to measure for each client. The Mogador sofa is a perennial favourite at Minima and is regularly reordered as a display piece. Despite the formal appearance, this studded sofa is very comfortable, especially finished in wool or silk over an ancient oak base.
